About Lavender
Lavender derives its name from the Latin word "lavare" which means, "to wash", and was used as an ancient herb for cleaning clothes and linens and for bathing, due to its refreshing scent. Revered throughout the centuries as a therapeutic herb, antiseptic, and disinfectant, lavender is still used today in many herbal remedies and culinary dishes. The fragrance and beauty of the dried flowers make it perfect for sachets and potpourri while the lavender essential oil is used in many bath and cleaning items.

There are hundreds of varieties of lavender in the world with colors varying from white to pale pink to blue to dark purple. South River Lavender grows many of the lavender varieties including:

Lavendula Angustifolia , English Lavenders - typically are a smaller bush with downy leaves that begin whitish-grey and turn green by mid-simmer. The flowers which bloom early to mid summer are typically a deep purple.
